Schule im Wasserburg

What a wonderful locale for a cultural exchange! Wasserburg is one of the most historic towns in Bavaria. You cross a bridge and pass through the Brucktor or bridge gate to enter into the medieval old town with its colorful Gothic houses. The wall mural dates from 1568. And you thought buildings in Pioneer Village were old. Yesterday and today our Student Ambassadors attended classes with their hosts in the morning and spent the rest of the day touring the surrounding area. Some delegates visited Munich, less than 50 km away, while others met other host families for planned group activities. I overheard one German student tell his new American friend, "Now we go for ice cream eating." For the last two days I have seen many smiling faces -- both American and German. Das ist sehr gut!

Wasserburg. Notice the Alps in the background.

While the students were in school, Karla and I walked around old town. Grant's "German mother" stopped us on the street to tell us how much she is enjoying hosting such a polite young American. We then met Victor's and David's "German mothers" who were also impressed with such fine young gentlemen. Kudos, parents!

Wasserburg-- Bakersfield's next sister city, perhaps?

I didn't get too many photos of delegates, since they are spending time with different host families. I will post more soon!
