Grey Skies

It was cold and rainy most of the day. In the morning our delegation visited Mauthausen, the infamous Nazi Concentration Camp where over 100,000 prisoners perished.  The weather seemed to reflect everyone’s somber mood.  I was so proud to be with such respectful, mature young people who impressed our tour guide with their thoughtful insights and questions. Later in Vienna, students were very fortunate to meet an 82 year old Austrian Holocaust survivor. It was a very moving experience for all. On a lighter note, everyone had fun after dinner exploring the beautiful grounds of Schonbrunn Palace.

The Dutch Memorial includes Peter Van Pels, the teenage boy who hid in the Amsterdam attic with Anne Frank and her family for two years.
